WIZKID, P. SQUARE SAVE THE DAY AT CHANNEL O MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS

The 2013 edition of the Channel O Music Video Awards, which held at Walter Sisulu Square, in Kliptown Soweto, on Saturday, November 30, was not an impressive outing for Nigerian acts, as many of them lost out in the categories they were nominated for.Thankfully, Wizkid’s Azonto, which won the biggest award of the night (Most Gifted Video of the Year), and P. square’s honorary Special Recognition Award, plus the duo’s intriguing performance was more than enough consolation.Nigerian artistes in past editions of the awards show have always recounted wins in several categories but this year’s experience was a far cry from the usual trend.2face, Tiwa Savage, Davido, Ice Prince , Naeto C, D’Prince, Chidinma, Jesse Jagz, Lola Rae, Burna Boy and Iyanya were all beaten to the prize in different categories.However, most performers of the night failed to connect with the audience, including KCEE,who performed Limpopo. But P. Square and Mafikizolo of Khona fame redefined the atmosphere. The Okoyes performed their infectious Alingo, Personally… songs and the whole place went alive – generating an excitement that was non-existent before the brothers stepped on stage.Naeto C also delivered his duty as a co-host impressively, even though his stint performance with South Africa’s AKA didn’t cut it. Meanwhile, EME Boss Banky W, who was absent at the show won in theMost Gifted R’n'B Videocategory. Wizkid picked theaward on his behalf.Expectedly, Khona won the Most Gifted DanceVideo.
