With a father like Femi Falana – an activist and a revered lawyer, and a lawyer mother, Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana must be a norm breaker. It must be tough for him to convince his parents he wanted to archive his law degree for a regular vigil in the studio. The ‘High Class’ singer talked about his family, music career, and of course the ladies during an interview.Your father, Femi Falana is an activist, how did you convince him that you wanted to drop your Law career for music?Lol. Initially my parents were never in support of me choosing music over law, but with time when they started hearing my music, they had no choice but to support my decision.
Between law and music, which is your first love?Music is my first love.
Given that your parents are lawyers, aren’t there too much rules in the house?Lol. Yeah, a lot of people think since our parents are lawyers, the whole house will be full of arguments and the likes, but our house is cool. We drop our professions while we are at home. And fortunately my elder sister is also a lawyer.
What if music doesn’t pay your bills, will you go back to practice law?I don’t like to think of ‘if’ music doesn’t. I am positive and I know it will pay off. Maybe after I have sold a lot of records and I have achieved so much in the music industry, then,I may start thinking of practicing law, fully.
You practiced in your father’s Chambers, were you treated like the boss’ son or like every other staff?Well, I’m still in my father’s Chambers and I don’t get treated like the boss’son.
Let’s talk about the girls, you are a ‘bahd’ guy, at least that’s the name of your Record Label. Are you bad to the ladies?Lol. About me being bad with the ladies, the ladies can speak more about that (laughing). But, I’m not bad to the ladies. I’m the only recording artiste on Bahd Guy Entertainment for now, but with time when Bahd Guy Entertainment becomes strongly grounded, we would start having more recording artistes.
Are you in a relationship?Nah. I am currently single.
You have shot two different videos, which featured Mex, why the recurrence of Mex the second time?Yea. When you work with someone and you feel a taste of excellence, you will want to continue working with such a person. Mex is a great guy. I like working with him because he knows what he is doing.
Tell us about your new single:My new single is titled ‘Currency’ it is a new style on a high tempo compared to other tracks and it is a reflection of my style and what people want.
Which of your songs would you say gave you an identity in the music industry?‘High Class.’This song brought out my style and people so far have been embracing it.
That reminds me; you recently had an accident that left your manager on crutches. How did it happen? We had an accident on Benin express-way while coming from Abuja. I was scheduled fora show in Abuja on that Friday, and another in Benin on Saturday. After the show in Abuja, we tried booking for tickets to Benin but we were unable to, so we had to hire a cab to take us to Benin. On our way, we were asleep while we heard the first gun shot that woke us up. The second gunshot was targeted at our driver while he was trying to escape. Unfortunately, he got killed by the gunshot and died immediately. The next we realized was that we met ourselves in the bush, helpless. After, a while, soldiers, policemen came around to our rescue. It was a terrible experience.
